Ashkar's works feature sensuous combinations that deconstruct and disrupt the appearance of gilded porcelain cups produced by Naaman and Lapid. These factories are located in the vicinity of her childhood home, the Barbur neighborhood on the outskirts of Acre's industrial zone. The contrasts between tar and porcelain, black and white, dirty and clean, stained and gilded, lose their distinct quality and form, giving rise to a political, cultural, and gender-related critique that stems from Ashkar's concern with her identity as a woman and a Palestinian living in Israel..
